ASU to get new campus buildings soon

The Albany State students will soon have better infrastructural facilities in their campus. The construction work will begin in full swing next year.

The currently empty ACAD building won't be vacant for long, a $23 million dorm building will sit there. Across campus, a multi-million dollar student center will be built on the hill. There will also be a lot of space for cafeteria which currently is very cramped.

The nearly $17 million student center will include a ballroom, study area, bookstore, lounging area, eating rooms, and a game room equipped with pool tables. There will be an amphitheater as well which would be used for concerts and other entertainment events. The new building will have dorms capable to fit 600 students.

The ASU Fiscal Affairs Vice President Larry Wakefield said the designing of the new building is kept in mind keeping the space factor as well and will include every necessary facility required by young students. The new building will however demolish 30 years old halls.

The proposed building will be 50,000 square foot which is twice the size of the current student center. In order to fund this project the students will have to contribute in the form of increased fees. The fees will be hiked from the current $76 to $100.

The institutional heads feel the new infrastructure will help students get the best of knowledge through the project labs, presentation rooms and more. All this will also help attract new students.

The project has been approved by the Board of Regents and will be funded by bonds. The new building will be ready by 2012.
